As we kick off a new year, it is a great time to think about how we can do better. Oroville Animal Health Center has some wonderful ideas about how to include pet health resolutions in your plans for 2025.
Why Pet Health Resolutions?
Treating a problem once it is already a problem isn’t always a great tactic. Good preventive practices and pet wellness care can eliminate many problems before they become serious. Good pet wellness care can help our pets stay healthier and happier longer.
Routine physical examinations, pre-emptive screening testing, and parasite prevention play a huge part in preventing and detecting potential problems. When we provide these things for our pets, many of them are able to be part of our lives for longer. That sounds like a win-win for everyone.
Best Ideas for 2025
So, now that you have decided to include pet health resolutions in your plans for the New Year, what should your goals be? Our team definitely has some favorite suggestions!
- Quality time — We are all busy, and many times this means that our beloved pets take a back burner. Make a promise to your pets that you are going to spend more time with them this year. Take your dog for a daily long walk, spend a few minutes with the laser pointer, sign up for a training class, or get a membership to a dog park or daycare. Your pet will appreciate it!
- Prioritize wellness — Make sure that you are keeping up with wellness visits and health recommendations for your pet. This can be the year that you take better care of your pet’s health. Set goals about keeping vaccine appointments, administration of parasite prevention, scheduling a recommended dental procedure, brushing your pet’s teeth, or updating annual lab work.
- Watch their weight — Over half of the pets in the United States are obese or overweight, which predisposes them to health problems such as diabetes, cancer, osteoarthritis, and heart disease. You can make your goal to measure out food better, limit treats or table food, contact us to schedule a nutritional consultation, or commit to more exercise.
- Grooming goals — Grooming tasks aren’t always fun, but they are important to support pet health. Make your goal to brush your pet more frequently, learn how to trim your pet’s nails, clean ears routinely, or commit to a more consistent grooming schedule.
Make the New Year your pet’s best year! Pet health resolutions are a great way to check in and be sure that you are providing your pet with the best care possible.
